Governor Aiyedatiwa targets N6b monthly revenue for Ondo State
Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has pledged to hit the ground running as he officially begins his four-year term today. Determined to make an immediate impact, Aiyedatiwa revealed plans to head straight to his office after taking the oath of office, where key decisions will be made on his very first day in office.
Speaking to journalists at the Beach Sunsplash event in Araromi Seaside, Ilaje Local Government Area, a celebratory event leading up to his inauguration—the governor reaffirmed his commitment to driving development across all sectors.
His administration, he said, will operate under a new governance framework tagged ‘Our Ease’ Agenda, designed to expand revenue streams and accelerate growth in critical areas such as infrastructure, education, healthcare, and tourism.
Aiyedatiwa unveiled ambitious plans to significantly boost the state’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), targeting a jump from the current N1.7 billion–N2 billion per month to as much as N6 billion.
“We are working with a consultant to explore ways of closing existing revenue leakages and leveraging technology to enhance collection and management,” he disclosed. “With the right strategies, Ondo State has the potential to generate between N4 billion and N6 billion monthly.”
He emphasized that tourism, particularly in areas like Araromi Seaside, will be a key driver of economic expansion. “We are looking at multiple income sources, and tourism is one of them. The natural beauty we have here is an untapped goldmine.”
The governor also hinted at immediate appointments but remained tight-lipped on his cabinet composition. “Some key appointments will be announced on my first day in office. However, I won’t reveal details just yet,” he said.
