Governor Adeleke eases curfew in Osun
Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has announced a reduction in the curfew imposed on Ifon, Ilobu, and Erin following recent communal clashes, scaling it down from 24 hours to 17 hours daily.
The governor’s decision, conveyed in a statement by his spokesperson Olawale Rasheed, adjusts the curfew to run from 2:00 PM to 7:00 AM, effective Friday, March 28, 2025. The measure, he said, will remain in place indefinitely until further notice.
The curfew follows an escalation of tensions over a long-standing land dispute, which erupted into violence last week. The conflict resulted in the destruction of several houses in Ifon and Ilobu, located in Orolu and Irepodun Local Government Areas.
Although relative calm has returned, the governor acknowledged reports of another fatality and assured the public that security forces have apprehended a suspect in connection with the incident.
Adeleke said the curfew relaxation aims to alleviate the hardship faced by residents, allowing them to tend to essential activities. At the same time, he issued a stern warning:
“Anybody or group of persons found instigating violence will face the full weight of the law.”
To maintain law and order, the governor has directed the joint security task force to continue their surveillance operations, ensuring strict enforcement of peace measures.
Acknowledging the impact of the crisis on affected families, Adeleke also instructed the state emergency agency to intensify relief efforts for displaced persons and ensure full implementation of existing assistance programs.
