Google buys Wiz for $32B to strengthen its position in cloud security
Google has announced plans to acquire Wiz, a leading cloud security platform, in a blockbuster $32 billion all-cash deal. The acquisition, revealed in a blog post on Tuesday, marks one of the largest cybersecurity deals in history and is expected to significantly enhance Google Cloud’s security offerings.
Once the transaction is finalized, Wiz will be integrated into Google Cloud, aligning with the tech giant’s broader strategy to fortify cloud security. Google stated that the acquisition is aimed at improving security design, automation, and protection against emerging threats, particularly those driven by artificial intelligence (AI).
Google also emphasized that the deal will help reduce security costs for customers while expanding multi-cloud capabilities. This means businesses and governments using various cloud computing providers will benefit from enhanced security features without being locked into a single ecosystem.
“From its earliest days, Google’s strong security focus has made us a leader in keeping people safe online,” said Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google. “Today, businesses and governments that run in the cloud are looking for even stronger security solutions and greater choice in cloud computing providers. Together, Google Cloud and Wiz will turbocharge improved cloud security and the ability to use multiple clouds.”
Despite its integration into Google Cloud, Wiz’s security solutions will remain available across all major cloud platforms, including Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure, and Oracle Cloud. This move is expected to reassure existing Wiz customers who rely on its multi-cloud security tools.
