Tinubu assigns portfolios to ministers

Eleven days after the Nigerian Senate concluded the screening of 46 out of 48 ministerial nominees, President Bola Tinubu, on Wednesday, August 16, 2023, assigned portfolios to the 46 confirmed ministerial nominees.

Nyesom Wike, the former governor of Rivers State who allegedly worked against his party, the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP), during the February presidential election, was appointed as the Minister in charge of the Federal Capital Territory. Meanwhile, Wale Edun, who had previously served as Tinubu’s commissioner for Finance during his tenure as Lagos State governor, has been designated as the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy.

Also, Dr. Bosun Tijani, whose nomination as a minister stirred controversy on social media due to his old tweets that many described as derogatory, casting aspersions on the nation and its leaders, including President Bola Tinubu, will lead the Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy.
