From “I Need To Know” To “Dettol Clean Naija”: Funke Akindele’s Socially Conscious Moves

Multiple award winning Nollywood actress and producer, Funke Akindele has recently been named as Dettol’s brand ambassador.

Reckitt Benckiser Nigeria, through its Dettol brand, chose Akindele as the face of its ‘Clean Naija Initiative’ during a colourful ceremony at Radisson Blu, Ikeja, Lagos on Tuesday, April 16th, 2019.

The Clean Naija Initiative, according to RB West Africa General Manager, Mr. Dayanand Sriram, is a multi-level campaign with the aim of creating awareness, education and driving behavioural change to achieve a cleaner and healthier Nigeria.

“Mrs Akindele-Bello has been a worthy role model and an inspiration for all Nigerians. Having also recorded success in various selfless activities, we have deemed her worthy of leading our “Clean Naija Initiative,” Mr Sriram said at the launch.

The new deal will see Akindele use her influence as a respectable personality to enlighten and sensitize Nigerians on the need to adopt healthier lifestyles by paying attention to the cleanliness of their environment.

Not that the challenge would be an unfamiliar territory for the big screen darling, as she had made a name for herself early on in her career through a popular TV soap, ‘I Need To Know’. ‘I Need To Know’, sponsored by the United Nations Population Fund, had been a family-oriented television series that sought to educate Nigerians on adolescent reproductive health.

The Clean Naija Initiative is another socially conscious campaign that Akindele will without a doubt make successful as she seeks to encourage the general public to keep the country clean for the sake of their well-being.
