Frank Lampard among contenders for Oxford United managerial job

Former Chelsea star Frank Lampard has been contacted for the managerial job after Michael Appleton left the Kassam Stadium to become assistant boss at Leicester City.

According to Sportsmail, Lampard, 39, who retired last season after a glittering career, is one of the names on the United shortlist.

Former Crystal Palace boss Dougie Freedman is a leading contender, after he nurtured a reputation as one of the English football’s most promising managers during spells at Selhurst Park, Bolton and Nottingham Forest.

The former England midfielder quit the game in February after a career which included winning the 2012 Champions League with Chelsea, as well as three Premier League titles and four FA Cups.

It would be a first job in management for the former West Ham United, Chelsea, Manchester City and New York City midfielder.
