Foodstuff seller parades as doctor, collects N400,000 after diagnosing patient of heart disease

A 35-year-old food stuff seller, Mercy Duru Ezinne has been arrested for allegedly parading herself as a medical doctor in Ogun State.

Mercy, a single mother of two, reportedly trained as an auxillary nurse in Aba. She had allegedly been parading herself as a medical doctor attached to the Federal Medical Center (FMC), Idi-Aba, Abeokuta.

Her cover was reportedly blown when a patient, Hassan Olawale was taken to her for medical consultation. She allegedly diagnosed a heart problem and suggested heart transplant.

It was gathered that since the patient started receiving treatment from Mercy, his condition only got worse, with the family being made to part with more than N400,000.

Mercy allegedly suggested that Hassan be taken to a German doctor in Accra, Ghana, and asked the family to raise money for the trip.

She has since been arrested, and the state Commissioner of Police, Iliyasu Ahmed has ordered that she should be charged to court.
