Flood destroys properties, displaces 200 households in Plateau
Almost 200 households have been sacked by a flood that swept through the Rikkos community in Jos, Plateau State, NAN reports.
The report said although no life was lost to the incident, occupants of affected buildings lost all their properties and valuables.
The head of the Emergency Response Team in the state, Al’Amin Yakubu described the affected persons’ situation as pathetic.
“The flood didn’t claim lives, but because it was huge, it displaced over 200 households,” Yakubu said.
“These households have lost all their properties and are left with nothing,” he said.
He further revealed that the victims have no access to food and shelter, and were only squatting with neighbours.
“As a community, we don’t have the capacity and resources to camp these people; we would have done that pending when the government will intervene,” he added.
“But we have contacted the National Emergency Management Agency and the State Emergency Management Agency, and both have promised to respond soon,” he said.
