Five reasons why LASG wants 2 million passengers traveling on water daily

Lagos State Governor, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode on Sunday commissioned three newly acquired executive boats and four jet skis by the State Government, with a pledge to fully explore the tourism and economic potentials of the waterways in the State

Some of the reasons why Lagos State Government is toeing this direction is not far from the under listed:
To ensure safety and fight crime on waterways:
Lagos state recently acquired some boats and four Jet Skis to ensure safety and fight crime on the waterways; the State Government promised to add an additional seven commercial ferries.
A lot of crimes are usually perpetuated along the coastal and river lines of Lagos daily, mostly these crimes goes unreported and unchecked due to lack of basic facilities required to carry out these duties.
Twenty-five percent of Lagos is water:
People that live along waterways have not been fully integrated into the modern and standard living of ‘Lagosians’
Sometimes, when infrastructure damages or a social problem occur, it is usually difficult to as a matter of urgency address these problems relating to people and citizens due to lack of boats, ferries etc

 Lagos State recently commissioned three boats to allow their officials  go on the waterways to address issues as at when due, and to bring them into proper perspective.

Tourism:

It is difficult for dignitaries to see the true side of Lagos from waterways perspective when they come from other States or countries, the State Government promised to procure more boats that would help promote tourism in the State so that people can see the great potentials of Lagos State

Transportation:

Over six million people walk every day on Lagos roads, there is a need to face the waterways which composes of twenty five percent of the land mass of Lagos, as part of the modern day integrated transport management system

Lagos State Government just ordered the procurement of seven ferries; and they have also invited people from the private sector to take over terminals and also be able to procure their own boats and ferries.

There are plans to create connectivity between water terminals and the roads, especially in Badore, Ajah, Mile 2, Badagry, Ikorodu and other places where there are terminals.

Rescue and emergency:

Lagos State Government recently acquired some Jet Skis,some of the Jet Skis have the capacity to carry two divers, so that when an incident occur on the water, there is a Jet Ski that will move divers fast to the incident scene while the rescue boats are coming behind and when they get there, divers are dropping into the waters and as soon as they rescue people, they put them into the rescue boat and take them to hospital.
