Fire outbreak razes down 77 shops in Kano
Traders in Kasuwar Kurmi (‘Yan Gumama) Market in Kano State have been sorrowful over their misfortune in the wake of a fire outbreak that destroyed 77 shops with wares and valuables.
The Kano State Fire Service responded to the incident after being notified by a distress call from Aliyu Ibrahim, who was at the scene of the inferno at that time. The firemen were able to contain the fire and prevented it from spreading wide into other shops in the surrounding area.
“We received a distress call at about 7:35a.m. from one Aliyu Ibrahim that there was fire outbreak at the market. We quickly sent some of our personnel and fire-fighting vehicle to the scene of the incident at about 7:43a.m. to quench the fire and stop its spread to other shops,” the Fire Service spokesperson, Alhaji Saidu Mohammed said.
There were no reported injuries or any loss of life in the incident, and Mohammed has revealed that investigation was ongoing so as to ascertain the cause of the fire.
As dry season approaches, traders and residents have been warned to desist from activities that could trigger fire outbreak within their vicinity.
