FG intensifies extradition process for Diezani as Interpol issues her arrest warrant

The Federal Government of Nigeria has commenced extradition process to bring Diezani Allison-Madueke back to Nigeria after International police organization, Interpol reportedly issued arrest warrant against her.

The former Minister of Petroleum who was accused of being involved in embezzlement and corruption case while in office is wanted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC for prosecution.

After taking leave of absence to attend to a medical health issue in London, Diezani has been stuck in the UK for over three years out of fear of being apprehended when she returns home.

Over the years EFCC has been fighting to extradite Diezani all to no avail. But it was reported recently that Interpol has finally consented to charges filed against Diezani.

The Interpol mandates all member countries, which includes the UK to arrest any individual that it issues arrest warrant against wherever they are seen within their territories.

It’s been noted, however that despite this announcement, Diezani is not yet listed as a wanted person on the Interpol website. But a source told the Punch that “Interpol has red-flagged Allison-Madueke. This means that the extradition process has been kickstarted and the former minister may be arrested by the United Kingdom police or any police agency all over the world and repatriated to Nigeria.”
