FG fulfils housing, land pledge to Super Eagles for AFCON 2023 performance
The federal government has fulfilled its promise to reward members of the Super Eagles with housing and land following their performance at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Côte d’Ivoire.
Nigeria’s national team finished as runners-up at the 2023 AFCON tournament, which was held in 2024, after losing 2-1 to host nation Côte d’Ivoire in the final.
After the team returned home, President Bola Tinubu hosted the players at the Presidential Villa, where he honoured each squad member with the national award of Member of the Order of the Niger (MON). The president also pledged a plot of land in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and a housing unit to every player.
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has now confirmed that the pledges have been fulfilled. According to the federation, the players have received certificates for both the land and the housing allocations.
The documents were reportedly presented to the team at their camp in Fez, Morocco, on Monday.
Meanwhile, the Super Eagles are set to kick off their 2025 AFCON campaign on Tuesday with a match against Tanzania. They will face Tunisia on December 27 before concluding the group stage against Uganda three days later.
