EFCC finally files 10-count charge against Babachir Lawal over N272m grass-cutting scandal
The EFCC has finally caved in to pressure as it files a 10-count charge against the former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal over a fraudulent grass-cutting scandal.
Lawal is being charged for the misappropriation of N272million which he claimed to have used in cutting grasses at an IDP camp, two years ago.
The government under President Buhari was heavily criticised for condoning the former SGF after it was discovered that he contracted a sham company belonging to him to cut the grass.
For a long time, the issue remained unresolved until members of the Senate booed president Buhari at the National Assembly as he was presenting the national budget before the chamber late last year.
Lawal, alongside five others – Hamidu David Lawal, Sulaiman Abubakar, Apeh John Monday, Rholavision Engineering Limited and Josmon Technologies Limited – will face trial at the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
The date for hearing the case has not been disclosed yet.
