FG didn’t pay a dime, exchange insurgents to secure release of Dapchi girls – Lai Mohammed
The Federal government has maintained no ransom was paid for the release of Dapchi schoolgirls.
Information minister Lai Mohammed said reports in a section of the media that ransom was paid is a lie.
He also refuted claims that the government swapped some insurgents with the girls.
He, however, confirmed that the total number of girls who have regained freedom is now 106.
“It is not true that we paid ransom for the release of the Dapchi girls, neither was there a prisoner swap to secure their release,” Mohammed said.
”What happened was that the abduction itself was a breach of the ceasefire talks between the insurgents and the government, hence it became a moral burden on the abductors. Any report that we paid ransom or engaged in prisoner swap is false.”
All the girls who regained freedom have now been formally handed to the Federal Government.
