Federal Government Hikes Nigerian Passport Fees by Over 40 Percent
In a move aimed at maintaining the quality and integrity of the Nigerian passport, the administration of President Bola Tinubu has approved an upward review of passport fees, effective from September 1, 2024.
This increase will impact both the 32-page and 64-page passport booklets, which are issued for five and ten-year validity periods, respectively.
According to a press release from the Nigeria Immigration Service, signed by the Service Public Relations Officer, DCI KT Udo, the 32-page passport booklet, which previously cost ₦35,000, will now be priced at ₦50,000, representing a 42.86 percent increase. Similarly, the fee for the 64-page passport booklet will rise from ₦70,000 to ₦100,000.

Although the press release stated that the “fees remain unchanged in the Diaspora,” it emphasised that this adjustment is part of the government’s ongoing efforts to ensure the quality and integrity of Nigerian passports.
“As part of its efforts to maintain the quality and integrity of the Nigerian Standard Passport, the Federal Government has approved an upward review of the fees for the Passport effective from 1st September, 2024,” the statement read.
Addressing potential concerns over the fee hike, the Immigration Service expressed regret for any inconvenience caused to prospective applicants. However, they emphasized their commitment to providing transparent and quality service delivery.
“While the Nigeria Immigration Service regrets any inconvenience this increase might cause prospective applicants, it assures Nigerians of unwavering commitment to transparency and quality service delivery at all times,” the statement concluded.
