Family of five suffering from mental illness rescued in Cross River
Help has finally come the way of a family of five said to be suffering from mental illness in Ogoja, Cross River State.
News about the family – a man, his wife, and three children – roaming the streets had circulated weeks ago, and the state government was able to identify them.
The man has been identified as Ben Ogar, who was said to have lost his means of livelihood about six years ago in Abuja.
At the time, Ogar and his wife were blessed with two kids, but the family took them from him the moment they noticed his mental instability.
He would then live in a shanty with his wife, before being blessed with another set of three children.
Doctors at Federal Neuro Psychiatric hospital, Calabar, say Ogar suffers from a mental disorder, while his wife only suffers from ‘folie a deux’ syndrome due to her husband’s ideation.
The children – two girls and a boy – doctors say, are in very stable condition and are responding to treatment.
Commsioner for Health in the state, Dr. Inyang Asibong, said the family will be rehabilitated and reintegrated into the society with continuous medical care and social welfare.
