Fake online vendor selling shoes and bags on Instagram sentenced to 6 months imprisonment

A fake online vendor, Afolabi Ojo has been convicted and sentenced to six months imprisonment by the court.

Ojo was busted sometime in June 2017 for swindling unsuspecting customers by displaying shoes and bags for sale on an Instagram page he named ‘Beat Classic Store’. He also operated the page under the name ‘Kemisola’.

Many prospective customers fell for his scam as goods paid for were not delivered.

One of Ojo’s victims had paid a sum of N45,000 for goods he did not deliver and that was when his cover was blown.

He had initially pleaded “not guilty” but later changed his plea to “guilty” on the amended one-count charge.

Justice Maureen Onyetenu of the Federal High Court sitting in Osogbo, Osun State, thereafter convicted him and sentenced him to six months in prison from the date of conviction having opted for a plea bargain.

The judge also ruled that Ojo will restitute the sum of N45,000 to his victim.
