Eritrea blasts Nigerians for believing “two wives or jail” hoax
The government of Eritrea has reacted to reports it ordered its men to marry two wives or be jailed for life.
Of course the story isn’t true, and the Eritrean government can’t believe many Nigerians not didn’t only buy the hoax; they actually spread it.
“Even a madman in Asmara (capital of Eritrea) would know that this story was not true,” an Eritrean official told the BBC.
“The media frenzy to parrot this ludicrous, fabricated and trite story…is appalling,” Eritrea’s information minister Yemane Gebremeskel also tweeted.
The story, published by a Kenyan based satire website, took the internet by storm on Monday.

The story was justified by the reported shortage of men in Eritrea due to the war it fought against Ethiopia from 1998-2000. While reports of the war remain factual, that of shortage of men in Eritrea is not.
Many Nigerians took to social media to declare their intention to travel to Eritrea to marry at least four wives. They were kidding, of course.
If mad men in Eritrea won’t believe this, what do we call the sane Nigerians who did?.
