EPL: Chelsea FC Trash Aston Villa in Title Battle
Chelsea handed Aston Villa a comprehensive 3-0 trashing in their English Premier League (EPL) game played on Sunday.
Aston Villa continued their poor run of form away at Stamford Bridge, currently without a win in 8 league matches.
Goals from Nicolas Jackson, Enzo Fernandez and the ever-reliable Cole Palmer ensured all three points for the Blues.
The game got off to the best of starts when, in the 7th minute, Cucurella whipped in a delightful low cross that was connected by Nicolas Jackson to beat Martinez at his near post for Villa.
Villa looked jaded and second-best as they struggled to cope with the flow of the game.
Somehow, though, Villa had luck on their side when, minutes later, Fofana fumbled and allowed Ollie Watkins to get ahead of him only for the Villa striker to, unluckily, hit a one-on-one attempt straight at Chelsea Goalie, Robert Sanchez.
Villa’s woes were almost compounded in the 30th minute when Martinez picked up a back pass under pressure after denying Cole Palmer’s strike. A free-kick inside the penalty box was, however, blocked by the Keeper and the rest of his outfield players.
6minutes later Chelsea was not to be denied again with Cole Palmer setting Enzo up for Chelsea’s second.
Moments later, Emiliano Martinez made a shock blunder, passing to Nicolas Jackson, only for the Chelsea striker to fluff the chance presented to him in front of goal.
The first half ended 2-0 in favour of Chelsea.
The second 45 got underway with Aston Villa looking less hungry to get back in the game. Unai Emery’s side looked like lacking confidence and it showed in their game approach, allowing Chelsea the upper hand to play their football.
A double change of John Duran and Bailey in the 66th minute appeared to, temporarily spark life in the Villa attack.
Chelsea, on the other hand, continued to control the game, albeit surviving a scare or two, one of which being the goalline block made by Colwill to send a Ross Barkley header out for a corner kick.
On the other end, Pedro Neto continued to remain a torn in the flesh of Villa even despite moving to the left flank after Noni Madueke was introduced.
Madueke made an impact as well when he teed up Cole Palmer for the game’s third in the 83rd minute.
The game ended 3-0, a win that sees Chelsea climb up to 2nd position joint with Arsenal on goals.
Both teams will now look to the epic clash between Liverpool and Manchester City, the result of which will affect the league standings.
