English singer David Bowie dies after battle with cancer

English singer, David Bowie is dead after 18-month battle with cancer, his publicist has confirmed.

Born on January 8, 1947, David passed away on Sunday, January 10, 2016, two days after turning 69.

A statement posted on his official Facebook page reads:

January 10 2016 – David Bowie died peacefully today surrounded by his family after a courageous 18 month battle with cancer. While many of you will share in this loss, we ask that you respect the family’s privacy during their time of grief.

The singer/songwriter, whose real name was David Jones, released his 29th album, “Blackstar,” on Friday, January 8, 2016 to coincide with his 69th birthday.

The “Space Oddity” singer is survived by his second wife Iman and two children.
