Emeka Matthew Onovo – In Memory Of Those Killed Illegally By The Nigerian Police
October 23, 2020
Emeka Matthew Onovo, a 22-year-old student, first and only son of his parents, was killed in a police shootout near his father’s house, shortly after leaving the house in Enugu on the morning of July 4 2008.
When his father went to the police to report him missing, neighbours told him about the shoutout, at the scene he found his son’s glasses on the ground.
The police claimed that Emeka was an armed robber, but eyewitnesses said he was unarmed when he was shot by the police. The case was not investigated and no one was held accountable for the killing of the 22-year-old student.
