Eighth body of drowned NYSC members recovered from Taraba river

Reports from the National Youth Service Corps in Taraba State say the body of one of nine corp members who drowned in Taraba river has been recovered.

Mr Odeh Innuma, the NYSC spokesperson in Taraba state said the body was recovered from the river on Wednesday, making it the eighth body that has been found.

He said search is still ongoing for the last body whose name was given as Godiya, a Kaduna State native.

“We have all the details of the nine corps members involved in that unfortunate picnic tragedy, but it is not in our power to release the information to the media now,” he said.

“At an appropriate time, the Director General of NYSC, Brig. Gen. Suleiman Kazaure, will release detailed information about the corps members and even publish same in national newspapers.

“Just yesterday, the DG sent someone to Gashaka where the incident happened and the person has since returned to Abuja. So, we are all waiting to hear from the DG on the next line of action.”

The recovered body has been deposited at the morgue of the Federal Medical Centre in Jalingo, the state capital.
