According to Swiss media, the doctors had planned to wait till the twins were several months old before performing the procedure. They were however forcedt to bring it forward as the twins’ lives were in danger.
The separation surgery took a 13-strong medical team five hours on December 10, 2015.
The girls then underwent further surgery to close their abdominal walls and are now recovering in a peadiatric intensive care ward.
