Edo Governor Suspends Attorney General, Local Government Chairman Over Alleged Financial Misconduct
Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo has suspended the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Samson Osagie, along with the Chairman of the Edo Local Government Service Commission, Damian Lawani, over allegations of financial infractions.
In a statement released on Wednesday, Umar Ikhilor, Secretary to the State Government, announced that the suspension takes immediate effect. He added that the governor has set up an investigative committee to probe the allegations against the two officials.
“It is hereby announced for the information of the general public that the Governor of Edo State, His Excellency, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has approved the suspension from office of the Chairman of Edo State Local Government Service Commission, Hon. Damian Lawani, and the Honorable Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Hon. Samson Osagie Ph.D., over allegations of grave official and financial infractions,” the statement read.
Governor Okpebholo emphasized that the suspensions were necessary to allow for a thorough and unbiased investigation into the claims of financial misconduct. The investigative committee will review the allegations and provide recommendations accordingly.
According to Ikhilor, the suspension will remain in place until the conclusion of the inquiry.
