ECOWAS court upholds Nnamdi Kanu’s $800m suit against FG
An ECOWAS court sitting in Abuja has upheld a suit filed by leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu against the Federal Government.
The embattled Biafra agitator has been facing charges bordering on felony and terrorism.
He had filed a suit seeking an unconditional release and 800 million U.S dollars in damages.
Federal Government filed a counter suit, asking that Kanu’s suit be dismissed because it is a subject matter before the Federal High Court and the Appeal court and as such, constitutes an abuse of court process.
The presiding judge, Justice Micah Wright-Williams said FG’s application lacked merit.
Justice Wright-Williams said the ECOWAS court has the jurisdiction to hear cases of infringement of human rights.
Only a week ago, a Federal High Court judge struck out six of the 11 count charge against Kanu.
