May 9, 2018
At least 17 people have died from a fresh Ebola outbreak in northwest Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
The country’s health ministry said on Tuesday that the fresh outbreak was a “public health emergency with international impact.”
The outbreak was recorded at the tail end of last month till early May, but no new deaths have been recorded since its detection.
World Health Organization (WHO) said it “is working closely with the government of the DRC to rapidly scale up its operations and mobilize health partners, using the model of a successful response to a similar outbreak in 2017.”
The Nigerian government is expected to continue with its strict security surveillance and health checks on foreigners coming into the country.
