“Don’t suspend your trip” – Minister okays Nigerians’ travel to the United States
The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama, has allayed fears of Nigerians who harbour the intention to travel to the United States.
Onyeama was reacting to an earlier warning by Mrs Abike Dabiri-Erewa, where she urged potential travellers to shelve their travel plans until there is clarity on America’s immigration policy.
Dabiri-Erewa had cited the unfair treatment of some Nigerians at the US embassy as her reasons.
Onyeama, however, told newsmen in Abuja on Tuesday that there was no such ill-treatment of valid documents carriers.
“This is not the case” the minister said, stressing that no Nigerian with valid US visa were turned back.
He said he had had spoken to the US ambassador to Nigeria and high level US officials who said nothing of such had happened.
Onyeama said Nigeria was not on Donald Trump’s travel ban list and citizens have no cause for worry.
He stressed that it is only the Office of the President and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs that are credible sources of information about Nigeria’s foreign relations.
