Dogara officially announces defection from APC to PDP, other lawmakers join him

The speaker of the Federal House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara has officially announced his defection to People’s Democratic Party (PDP) after a prolonged fallout with his former party, All Progressive Congress (APC).

Although Dogara had left his party late last year and pitched his tent with the PDP, he never publicly confirmed his position until now. He had picked up a PDP form just like his colleague from the upper chamber, Bukola Saraki, but it seems he took his time before coming to a final decision.

He took the floor during the plenary session on Tuesday to make his position known before the lower chamber.

Following in his footstep, two other APC lawmakers, Ahmed Yerima representing Misau-Damdam constituency in Bauchi state and Edward Pwajok representing Jos South in Plateau state also defected to PDP.

The lawmakers have consequently joined a long list of politicians who have been defecting to either of the two leading political parties in Nigeria. They did not give any reasons for leaving the APC, but it’s obvious that the Reps were no longer comfortable in the party.

Both the speaker of the Senate and now, the House of Reps have become PDP members, which is in direct opposition to the ruling APC.
