Dismissed police officer behind Offa bloodshed dies in custody

A dismissed police officer and one of six prime suspects in the Offa bank robbery that led to bloodshed in April, Michael Adikwu, has died in custody.

The development was made known by Kwara State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Kamaldeen Ajibade, during the suspects’ arraignment before the court on Wednesday.

Ajibade told the court that the information was confirmed by head of Police investigation team, Abba Kyari. He, however, said details of Adikwu’s demise were not immediately provided.

“We have the names of six suspects on our charge sheet, but they brought five suspects, we cannot go on with the case until we amend the charges because we can not prosecute a dead person,” Ajibade said.

The remaining suspects are Ayoade Akinnibosun, Niyi Ogundiran, Ibikunle Ogunleye, Adeola Abraham, and Salaudeen Azeez.

Adikwu had earlier been dismissed by the police for indiscipline before his involvement in the robbery operation that led to the deaths of over 30 persons.
