Dino Melaye’s run-in with police continues, summoned after guard allegedly shoots policeman
Senator Dino Melaye has again been summoned by the Kogi State Police Command to report to the State Criminal and Investigation Department after his armed guards allegedly fired on a team of policemen on patrol duties in the state.
Police say an officer was a victim of the shooting, and is recuperating in the hospital.
Melaye had earlier claimed in a social media post that he was shot at by the police.
He said the police tried to block his convoy with a grader, parked on a bridge, while he was on his way to Yagba east to commission some projects. According to him, his convoy avoided the blockade.
He claimed over 20 bullets were fired at his jeep by a combination of policemen, men of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) and the military.
The police in their statement, however, said that Melaye’s guards opened fire first, contradicting the Senator’s account of the incident.
The latest incident continues Melaye’s long run-in with the police, as he was hounded for allegedly sponsoring political thugs in Kogi months ago.
