Desperate 20-year-old farm labourer hacks motorcycle rider to death in Ogun

20-year-old Tobi Kodaolu, apparently desperate for another means of survival, decided to kill a commercial motorcycle rider so as to dispossess him of his means of livelihood.

Kodaolu, after his arrest by the police in Ogun, narrated how he lured and killed the ‘Okada’ rider, Oni Olajuwon, at Iyana Efon via Orile-Ilugun area of the state last Wednesday.

The youngster who was hitherto a farm labourer, colluded with his 16-year-old brother, Kehinde Kodaolu and another 18-year-old suspect, Hammed Babalola, to steal the motorcycle.

Kodaolu’s victim was known to him. He confessed to have known Oluwajuwon in the neighbourhood before the incident.

The suspect said on the fateful day, he requested for Olajuwon’s service, and when they got into a thick bush, he stopped him and began to machete him.

“I used my cutlass to cut him many times. And when he was gasping for air and certainly dying, I took away his motorcycle,” he told the police following his arrest.

“I later came to meet them (referring to his accomplices) and we headed for Abeokuta,” he said.

He said he wanted to use the motorcycle for commercial purposes in Abeokuta.

Though Kodaolu exonerated his accomplices from being involved in the killing, they also said he made them swear an oath of secrecy before the incident.

Police boss in Ogun, Ahmed Iliyasu, said the Olajuwon’s remains was abandoned at the scene of the crime. He alleged that the suspects have been responsible for series of motorcycle snatching in the area.
