Delta governor, Ifeanyi Okowa, wife contract COVID-19, days after daughter tested positive
The governor of Delta State, Ifeanyi Okowa, has announced that he and his wife, Edith, have tested positive for COVID-19.
“My wife and I have tested positive for COVID-19,” he announced on Twitter. ” We are well and continuing with our isolation/medication. We thank you all for your continued prayers for us and our daughter.”
Okowa’s announcement is coming barely five days after his daughter tested positive for the virus.
The governor had said on Saturday that he, his wife, his children and other members of his household have gone into self-isolation on Friday after one of his daughters tested positive for COVID-19.
The Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Chiedu Ebie and the Commissioner for Information, Charles Aniagwu had also tested positive to the virus.
Okowa becomes the fifth governor in Nigeria to contract the virus. Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State, Seyi Makinde of Oyo State and Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State had tested positive for the virus and have since recovered. Ondo state governor Rotimi Akeredolu tested positive on Tuesday and has also gone into isolation.
