Davido to donate ₦250m to orphanages across Nigeria

Nigerian singer, Davido, has promised to donate ₦250 million to different orphanages across Nigeria following several donations to his Wema Bank account from friends and fans.

The two times Net Honours ‘Most Searched Male Musician’ winner had posted his account number on his social media account and asked his friends particularly those whom he had given hit songs in the past to send him money in celebration of his coming birthday.

In a few minutes after the post, donations began to pour in from fans and celebrities alike. Davido updated his Twitter and Instagram page with evidence of the monies as they came pouring in. Some of the celebrities who sent money to the account include BBNaija’s Nengi, Perruzi, Teni, Phyno, Don Jazzy, Tiwa Savage, Mayokun, Adekunle Gold, Mr Eazi, and Zlatan.

Davido also confirmed that Wema Bank too credited his account with the total amount in his account totalling about ₦250 million.

In a statement on his social media page, Davido announced that he would be giving away the money to charities across the country revealed a five-man committee that would manage the disbursement. 

The singer also said he would add an additional ₦50 million from his pocket o bring the total fund to ₦250 million which would be disbursed to orphanages across the country.

He said: “My goal is to do this fundraising every year to celebrate my birthday and give back to people in need. It is my hope that my friends, fans, colleagues in the industry, and the public will continue to support me as I drive this cause.”
