Davido’s public campaign for Senator Adeleke violates NYSC bye-laws

David Adeleke, a singer popularly known as Davido, has been violating the bye-laws of the National Youth Service scheme by publicly campaigning for his uncle, Senator Ademola Adeleke.

Adeleke is one of the leading candidates in Osun State’s forthcoming gubernatorial election.

Since Adeleke was picked as PDP’s flagship candidate in the poll, Davido, who boasts massive influence among Nigerian youths, has been seen at concerts and on videos urging the people of Osun to vote for his father’s brother. He even shared a photo in which he donned the political party’s regalia in support of his uncle.

Davido, who joined the Youth Service scheme weeks ago, has, by virtue of his public affiliation with PDP and Adeleke, flouted the rule which says no member can partake in partisan politics.

Davido has repeatedly flouted NYSC bye-laws.

The NYSC rule book proscribes the punishment of extension of service for a period not less than three months without pay for any member found guilty of partaking in partisan politics.

It is not the first time the 25-year-old singer would flout camp rules. He was widely reported to have left his colleagues to travel to Boston for a US Tour shortly after he made a grand appearance at the Lagos camp weeks ago.

The idea of the NYSC has come under heavy scrutiny in recent times, as the bye-laws of the scheme are not fairly applicable to all participating members.

Finance Minister, Kemi Adeosun was recently forced to resign the position over allegations of certificate forgery. And the Federal Government, for some reason, has refused to prosecute her for an obvious crime.

No member of the general public would be allowed to flout the bye-laws as Davido has done since he put his name in for the purpose of serving his fatherland.

Newsroom’s message to the NYSC to get comments on Davido’s involvement in partisan politics has not been responded to at the time of this report.
