Dasuki granted N200 million bail after 2 years in detention

A Federal High Court, Abuja has granted former National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki bail.

The ex-NSA was arrested back in 2015 for allegedly diverting $2.1billion funds meant for procurement of arms and ammunition to combat Boko Haram insurgents.

He has been in detention despite that he had been granted bail on five different occasions.

The court held today that the Federal Government failed to justify why it has kept Dasuki in detention for over two years.

It dismissed FG’s claim that the ex-NSA was being detained for the sake of national security and over alleged role he played in the illegal diversion of the arms procurement fund.

Describing Dasuki’s continuous detention as an aberration to the rule of law, the court granted him a N200 million bail and two sureties in like sum.

The judge said the sureties must not be lower than grade 16 in the civil service and where they are private citizens, they must be owners of landed properties in Abuja.
