Couple arrested for allegedly stealing babies during christening in Delta

A couple have been arrested by the Delta State Police Command for allegedly stealing two babies during a christening ceremony at Ebedei Adonishaka in Ukwuani Local Government Area of the state.

The suspected couple who, according to Commissioner of Police, Mr. Zanna Ibrahim, confessed to have stolen a total of nine children in the area, had earlier been arrested for burglary.

Ibrahim disclosed this on Saturday at a press briefing in Asaba, the state capital.

According to the CP, the stolen babies were recovered upon raiding the home of the suspects identified as Mr. Emmanuel Udeagwu, 37, from Ogbe-Ofu Quarters, Issele-Uku and Celestina Enebeli, from Isunpe Utagba-Unor, Ndokwa-West, on November 13, 2016.

Ibrahim said Udeagwu confessed to the crime during interrogation.

Some of the children that were sold by Udeagwu to one Madam Uju and Madam Cash at Asaba, were in turn sold to prospective buyers across the Niger.

The CP noted that the command would not relent in tackling crime in the state, urging members of the public to cooperate with its efforts.
