Hausa butcher allegedly caught stealing meat after using charm to make himself invisible

An unnamed Hausa butcher believed so much in an ‘invisible’ charm he had, he decided to test it by repeatedly strolling to a warehouse attached to a local abattoir in Enugu to steal meat.

The alleged thief was almost lynched by an angry mob which had stripped him naked when he was eventually caught, but for the timely intervention of police.

Before he was caught, he would visit the warehouse and stuff slabs of meat into his sack. He had successfully helped himself to large quantities of meat because he was convinced he was invisible.

His confidence in visiting the warehouse didn’t give off any reasons for suspicion, as the staff at the warehouse thought he was there on legitimate reasons and never questioned him.

It wasn’t until it emerged that the equivalent of several cows were missing from the warehouse that his presence provoked suspicion, prompting a worker to question him the next time he showed up.

Confidently, the man reportedly carried on with his mission thinking he was invisible, until the warehouse worker started shouting: ‘Stop! Thief!’

He was subsequently grabbed, beaten and stripped naked and already had a rope around his neck to be lynched but luckily for him, police quickly got to the scene to save him from the mob and he was taken to a jail in the city to face charges on stealing.

Chukz said charms were found around the man’s leg, which the mob believed he had used in making himself invisible on previous occasions.

Police spokesman in the state, Ebere Amaraizu confirmed that an investigation was being carried out, saying the man “is due to appear in court shortly.”
