“Christians can eat Lassa-virus-infected garri” – Abuja church instrumentalist

Steve: “I wasn’t scared of catching Lassa fever.”

Following the outbreak of Lassa fever, the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) may have succeeded in advising Nigerians against drinking garri.

But that admonition has fallen on at least one deaf ear.

Rivers State NMA chairman, Dr. Furo Green, had preached:

Because you are not sure which garri has been infected by rats, it’s advisable to stay away. When you want to sip garri, you only pour cold water, add sugar and milk as the case may be. When you do that you only succeed in gulping a life virus that can cause Lassa fever. The virus is empowered easily to attack you. Rather, garri should be consumed in the traditional way prepare it well boiled hot water or pour the garri in a pot of boiling hot water and steer it.

The admonition is based on the notion that Lassa-virus-carrying rats could defecate or urinate in garri while the food is being processed.

But Steve Chukwudi Fidel is not buying the sermon. And his reason is not farfetched: There’s a bigger sermon, and a higher power.

Steve is Music Director at Abuja-based Savannah Ministries. Like most devout Christians, he expressed the belief that his body, being the temple of God, cannot be attacked by any disease.

His faith assertion comes on Tuesday. That’s days after a GOFAMINT church pastor said the blood of Jesus will cure Lassa fever.

Steve, 30, hails from Enugu State. He holds a degree in History from the University Abuja. He lives in Abuja.

He’s part of a Christian organisation that aims to “build Christians to be matured in Christ.”

One of the signs of that maturity is the faith that a Christian will never fall sick.

Lassa fever may have killed over 43 in Nigeria but it’s not going to touch Steve and his kind.

Amen..

  • And then he told them, “Go into all the world and preach the Good News to everyone. Anyone who believes and is baptized will be saved. But anyone who refuses to believe will be condemned. These miraculous signs will accompany those who believe: They will cast out demons in my name, and they will speak in new languages. They will be able to handle snakes with safety, and if they drink anything poisonous, it won’t hurt them. They will be able to place their hands on the sick, and they will be healed.”

  • But Christ has rescued us from the curse pronounced by the law. When he was hung on the cross, he took upon himself the curse for our wrongdoing. For it is written in the Scriptures, “Cursed is everyone who is hung on a tree.” Through Christ Jesus, God has blessed the Gentiles with the same blessing he promised to Abraham, so that we who are believers might receive the promised Holy Spirit through faith.

  • Yet it was our weaknesses he carried; it was our sorrows that weighed him down. And we thought his troubles were a punishment from God, a punishment for his own sins! But he was pierced for our rebellion, crushed for our sins. He was beaten so we could be whole. He was whipped so we could be healed.

  • Thanks Rotimi Akinola for using your ignorance of God’s word, unbelief, faithlessness and immaturity to promote the truth of the Gospel. I pray some day you grow up from being just a logical church goer to a man born of the Spirit of God. And don’t forget to add Music Producer and director , Author, Researcher and Sound engineer to my profile. Playing Musical instruments is what I do for the Lord and for fun.
