“Chibok girls go home every 3 months, not prevented from reuniting with families” – Presidency

The spokesperson to President Muhammadu Buhari on Media & Publicity, Garba Shehu has denied claims that the 24 Chibok girls who earlier regained their freedom form Boko Haram captivity are being prevented from seeing their families.

There have been several reports that since the girls’ return, their parents have not had free access to them.

“It is time to put to rest the falsehood that parents of the 24 Chibok Girls who returned earlier are not allowed to see them,” Shehu said in a series of tweets on Thursday night.

“This claim is outrightly false,” he declared.

Garba said the girls go home to spend time with their families “every three months,” in accordance with an arrangement made by the Federal Government.

He further said they could not go home for the Easter celebrations because of security concerns, but the government made an arrangement for their parents’ visit to Abuja in batches.

“Eighteen of the parents left Abuja on Friday, May 5 after spending three days with their daughters. This can be verified,” he said.

“Another set will also come once arrangements for them are put in place,” he added.

A new set of girls (82) were recently released by the insurgents following successful negotiations.
