CBN allegedly sacks 16 directors as it implements Obazee Report
Only nine departmental directors are left at the CBN after 16 directors heading various units in Nigeria’s apex bank were allegedly relieved of their duties.
This is according to a report released by Premium Times on Tuesday, June 11, 2024.
The dismissal of the directors was recommended by Jim Obazee, the special investigator probing the management of the CBN under the leadership of ex-CBN governor Godwin Emefiele.
The list of the disengaged directors cited in the report includes:
1. Muhammed Rakiya Shuaibu (Information Technology)
2. Aisha Isa-Olatinwo (Branch Operations)
3. Mustafa Haruna Bala (Financial Policy & Regulation)
4. Mahmud Hassan (Trade & Exchange)
5. Nwaegberue Chibuike (Other Financial Institutions)
6. Nnaji Ozoemena (Statistics)
7. Efobi Chibuzo Anthony (Payments System Management)
8. Habib Amina (Human Resources)
9. Yusuf Phillip Yila (Development Finance)

14. Stanley Arinze A (Procurement and Support Services)
15. Omayuku Joseph Gbubemi (Governor’s Department)
16. Asiegbu Nkiru Eunice (Special Duties)
Since his removal by President Bola Tinubu in June last year, Godwin Emefiele has been embroiled in a series of allegations concerning financial misconduct and mismanagement of funds.
Some of the scandals the former bank chief is facing include stashing £543.5 million in fixed deposits in the UK without board consent and fraudulent cash withdrawals totaling $6.23 million. The former bank chief was also accused of having unauthorized investments in 593 foreign bank accounts in the UK, US, and China. Additionally, Emefiele was charged with misappropriating public funds through advances to the government, known as Ways and Means, amounting to N17.37 trillion.
The CBN is yet to confirm the sack of these directors.
