Brice Nguema Wins Gabon Presidential Election With 90.35% of Votes
Brice Nguema, who seized power in August 2023 after ousting former President Ali Bongo, has won Saturday’s presidential election with 90.35% of the votes cast.
The election, which recorded a 70.40% turnout, according to Gabon’s Interior Ministry, has cemented Nguema’s grip on power in the oil-producing nation with a population of 2.5 million.

Before the polls, Neusroom reported that the 50-year-old had a clear path to becoming an elected president, 19 months after seizing power. In Saturday’s election, his closest rival, Alain Claude Bilie By Nze, who was Gabon’s Prime Minister under Bongo, managed to secure only 3.02% of the total votes. Seven other candidates also participated in the election.
