Bribe-seeking policeman shoots motorcycle rider dead over N50 in Ebonyi
A commercial motorcyclist, has lost his life after he was allegedly shot dead by a bribe-seeking police officer.
The motorcyclist, who was said to be in his 20s, was allegedly killed by the policeman on Wednesday night, over his refusal to pay N50 bribe.
An eyewitness said: “When they stopped him, they demanded for their usual N50 but he gave them N20 and wanted to drive off when one of them opened fire on him. The bullet shattered his head and he died instantly.”
The policeman whose identity is yet to be revealed, was said to be attached to Anti Kidnap squad of Ebonyi State Police Command along Water Works road, Abakaliki.
State governor David Umahi has ordered the immediate arrest of the policeman who was responsible for the death or the motorcyclist.
Speaking through his Chief Press Secretary, Emmanuel Uzor, Umahi said the incident was barbaric and callous.
