Breaking: UI Students Stage Protests Over Tuition Hike
Students of the University of Ibadan (UI) have begun protests over the sudden increase in their tuition fee, Neusroom gathers.
News of this protests surfaced on social media, with the “#Feesmustfall” currently trending on X this Friday evening.
A statement issued by a User, @emisolj, on X, laments the sharp increase in the fees from its origina N24k to N412k within two years.
Neusroom learned that, after a statement was issued by the school council’s Secretary, G.O. Saliu, on Thursday, protests broke out by Friday midnight.

In the statement, the school had, “considered the reviewed schedule of levies for newly admitted and returning undergraduate students in the 2023/2024 academic session and approved it as recommended by the university Senate.”
The protesting students, however, countered this new development, with the statement on X suggesting an increased participation in the protests being staged.
“Ongoing protest by University of Ibadan students over tuition fee increments from 25k to 76k to 146k – 412k within two years.
“The resistance is gathering momentum. #FeesMustFall,” @emisolj wrote on X.
