Bauchi Police Arrest Man for Fake Naira Production
Bauchi Police have arrested 62-year-old man, Tahir Ahmed for allegedly producing fake naira notes. The arrest was announced by Bauchi state Police Public Relations Officer Ahmed Wakil, came after a concerned citizen raised the alarm.
According to Bauchi Police Public Relations Officer, Ahmed Wakil, the incident began on Tuesday, August 6, 2024, when a resident of Jos North LGA, Plateau State, boarded a commercial vehicle from Sabon Garin Narabi Toro LGA, Bauchi State. The journey took an unusual turn when Ahmed joined the vehicle at Tilden Fulani Market in Toro Local Government Area.
While on road to Bauchi, Ahmed reportedly engaged in what seemed like ritualistic chanting while transforming pieces of paper into what appeared to be new one-thousand-naira notes. This behavior from Ahmed sparked suspicion among the passengers.
Upon arriving in Bauchi, a vigilant bystander alerted the local police, leading to Ahmed’s arrest. Following a thorough interrogation, Ahmed confessed to the crime, and police recovered 238,000 naira in suspected counterfeit notes from him.
PPRO Wakil reported that the investigation is still underway. Bauchi Police Commissioner Auwal Muhammad has instructed the Deputy Commissioner of Police for Criminal Investigation, that the authorities are requesting the Central Bank of Nigeria to conduct a thorough and detailed examination of the seized money.
