Barber found in possession of Indian hemp bags 10-month jail term
A 21-year-old drug peddler, Femi Oyelami has been sentenced to ten months imprisonment for trafficking in 1.1 kg of Indian hemp.
Justice Nathaniel Ayo-Emmanuel of the Federal High Court, Ibadan, Oyo State, sentenced Oyelami based on the evidence before him and the fact that he pleaded guilty.
The judge ordered the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, the state Command, to destroy the harmful weed found with the convict.
Raphael Himinkaiye, counsel to the NDLEA, had told the court that the convict faced a one-count charge bordering on unlawful dealing in Indian hemp.
Himinkaiye said Oyelami committed the crime on January 23 at Total filling station, Ojoo, Ibadan.
He added that when the operatives of NDLEA apprehended the convict, he was found to be carrying a bag containing 1.1 kg of the illicit drug.
Oyelami, a father of one, had pleaded with the court to temper justice with mercy in sentencing him.
He said he was a barber, adding that his parents had died.
