Army intercepts lorry conveying over 16,000 liters of illegal diesel
Chief of Staff to 14 Brigade, Ohafia, Commander Col. Effiong has confirmed the arrest of one Kanayo, a suspected owner of a lorry conveying over 16,000 litres of illegal diesel.
Military operatives at Umunneochi Local Government Area in Abia State, intercepted the vehicle with Registration Number ABN 686 XA, during a stop-and-search operation.
After being stopped at the checkpoint, the driver of the vehicle took to his heels and he’s yet to be apprehended.
The diesel was found covered with over 200 bags branded as animal feed, in a tank specially constructed inside the lorry.
Military sources said that the content of the bags was sawdust, while the petroleum product was buried in the midst of the bags.
Kanayo confessed to the crime, saying he bought the diesel in Port Harcourt.
He denied stealing the product, admitting that he had no licence to lift petroleum products.
“I bought the diesel from the right source and they gave me receipt, I don’t know how the driver came up with the animal feed paper,” he said.
