At least two people were shot to death by an armed robbery gang that struck at a Union bank branch in Igede, Ekiti State late Wednesday.

The robbers, reportedly numbering about seven, blew up the bank’s ATM during the operation.

Two workers of the bank, including a security guard, were reportedly shot dead in the incident.

Police spokesperson in Ekiti, DSP Caleb Ikechukwu told NAN on Thursday that that the guard, who was shot in the head, died within the premises of the bank, while the injured staff died in the hospital.

Ikechukwu said police’s arrival at the scene prompted the robbers to drive into the bush and flee into the thick forest.

“The robbers would have done more havoc than they did, but for the prompt action taken by our men.

“There was an exchange of gunshots between the bandits and our personnel. They tried their best to manage the situation
