Another soldier dies as Boko Haram attacks military base near Lake Chad
Another soldier has lost his life in an attack on a military base in Arege village, near Baga on the shores of Lake Chad, AFP reports.
The publication quoted a military source as saying that the insurgents arrived the base in trucks fitted with anti-aircraft guns before dawn.
“The attack was successfully repelled but unfortunately a soldier was killed and seven others were injured,” the source, who is not named, said.
The military only said in its statement that the insurgents were neutralised when they attacked the base. It also shared photos of some of the terrorists that were killed.
“The Boko Haram terrorists were completely routed by the troops, neutralising many of them while others fled in disarray due to superior firepower,” it said.

“As a result, they hastily evacuated most of their corpses under the cover of the darkness.”
About a 100 soldiers, according to some soldiers, were killed in Metele two weeks ago, though the military dismissed the figure as bogus. It claimed 23 deaths were recorded.
Some operatives of the Army, after much uproar, were delegated to visit the widow of Lt. Col. II Sakaba, one of the slain soldiers, on Wednesday.
The news comes just hours after President Buhari had a meeting with leaders from Chad, Niger and Cameroon to discuss a solution to the insurgents’ relentless attacks.
