America jails three Nigerians for online romance scam
A Mississippi woman woman was ‘lonely’ but against all odds — and to her joyful amazement — she found her soulmate online.The man she fell in love with was a Nigerian with probably an ID name “Charlie,” She was looking for happiness, the man was also interested in knowing her better. The Nigerian man was very positive, and she felt a real connection there. These are similar stories of various women who were duped by the trio of Oladimeji Seun Ayelotan, 30,Rasaq Aderoju Raheem, 31, and Femi Alexander Mewase, 45
The trio of these Nigerian men would befriend women on dating sites, establish a romantic relationship and then either get them to send money or have them participate in fraud schemes, usually without the victim’s knowledge.
The unsuspecting women would sometimes be required to cash counterfeit checks and money orders; use stolen credit card details to purchase goods; and use stolen personal information to take over victims’ bank accounts.
Oladimeji Seun Ayelotan, 30, was sentenced to 95 years in prison; Rasaq Aderoju Raheem, 31, was given 115 years and Femi Alexander Mewase, 45, got 25 years behind bars, according to a report
