AFCON 2021: Four star players to lookout for in the quarter-final stage

So far, the AFCON 2021 competition has produced fantastic moments and inquiring upsets. Tunisia knocked out title favourites Nigeria, and debutant Comoros went toe to toe with host Cameroon in their last of 16 clash.

The stage is set for a thrilling quarter-final stage, and fans can look forward to fireworks and exciting football action on the dedicated SuperSport AFCON channel on DStv channel 202. Vincent Aboubakar:

The Cameroon captain has been in great form at the tournament so far, netting a brace in both matches against Burkina Faso and Ethiopia, and then added to his tally during the draw with Cape Verde and the win against Comoros. The big striker currently has 6 goals, surpassing Cameroon legend, Samuel Eto’o record of most goals in a single AFCON competition. The Ex Porto man will hope to add to his tally when Cameroon face the Gambia on Saturday.

Mohamed Salah

Mohamed Salah is yet to hit top gear at the AFCON, but the Liverpool star man is one player you can’t take your eyes off. So far, Salah has scored one goal at the AFCON  and will be looking to add to that tally when his team face fellow Arab nation, Morocco.

Achraf Hakimi

The pacy wingback has been phenomenal for the Moroccan national team scoring 2 direct freekicks. The PSG man is the first player to score 2 direct freekicks at the same Africa Cup of Nations edition since Geremi with Cameroon in 2008. Hakimi was also voted the MOTM in Morocco’s win over Malawi in the round of 16.

Musa Barrow

Tournament debutant, The Gambia qualified for the quarter-finals after defeating Guinea in the round of 16 clash. Star striker Musa Barrow has been in tremendous form throughout the tournament, scoring 2 goals and also providing 2 assists. Gambia will face host Cameroon on Saturday, and the Bologna striker will hope to inspire his team to a famous victory.
